What are artificial colourings?

These are chemicals that fall under the category of 'Additives', there are different types and they are mainly used for commercial purposes to make products look better in the eyes of the consumer: a croquette with red colouring appears richer in tomatoes, while green colouring makes a product perceived as 'rich in vegetables' when it may not contain any.

During the production process, pet food can per lose colour, which is why some manufacturers resort to adding artificial colouring agents to improve their appearance.

Since our pets hardly care about the colour of their food, it goes without saying that the use of these additives is solely aimed at convincing people that the products contain genuine ingredients.

Additives have no nutritional value

Although the food colourings used in Italy tend to be safe, some researchers have highlighted a certain alleged danger in some of them, which is why many of the largest pet food companies on the market are taking steps to permanently remove all traces of artificial colouring from their products, preferring to respect the natural colour of the ingredients.
