Sleeping with your dog is an increasingly popular habit.
According to a recent survey by the television broadcaster Channel 4, there are about 23,000 owners in England who share sheets with their faithful companions: half of those surveyed.
The percentages clearly vary with the size of the animal: small dogs are more likely to gain space in the master bedroom. The fact remains, however, that every second owner does not want to end and start the day without their beloved dog at their side.
But is this a healthy habit? Is it a correct solution for the upbringing of our puppies?
The issue is complex and long debated by academics and animal lovers.
Ecco alcune controindicazioni e consigli per una sana convivenza.
Several studies warn of the contraindications of bed-sharing. First and foremost, there are health risks: the dog is in fact a carrier of allergenic factors, harmless for the animal, but potentially harmful to our health. All it takes is a walk in the open air for dust and pollen to settle in the animal's fur and end up between the sheets.
There is also the fact that human and canine sleep are different: dogs tend to wake up more often, making noises and whining that can compromise the quality of our rest.
Finally, according to some experts, not separating spaces can confuse the animal and negatively affect its education.
